Emerging Nuclear ThreatsThe Foundation’s Emerging Nuclear Threats program is aimed at countering the new, more urgent nuclear threats from existing and potential nuclear weapons states, as well as non-state entities. These risks include the increased planning for the use of nuclear weapons, nuclear terrorism, and the continued threat of nuclear proliferation. The program seeks to decrease these threats through education, analysis, policy recommendations and advocacy. The Foundation participated in the 2009 Preparatory Committee meetings for the 2010 Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference held in New York City in May 2009. The Foundation has completed a book-length publication, At the Nuclear Precipice: Nuclear Weapons and the Abandonment of International Law, based upon its 2006 International Law Symposium. Another book, based on a 2007 conference the Foundation co-sponsored with the Toda Institute for Global Peace and Policy Research titled The Challenge of Abolishing Nuclear Weapons has also been published. Ongoing analysis and policy recommendations in this area are offered and distributed on a regular basis. |
